What the human evidence actually is

Better than most. Imperial College London has run randomised, placebo-controlled crossover trials of kisspeptin in men and women with low sexual desire, reporting enhanced brain responses to sexual stimuli and improved sexual function measures. Kisspeptin has also been used as an IVF trigger in clinical studies with a lower risk of ovarian hyperstimulation than hCG. Small trials, real methodology, no approval.

How it is supposed to work

Acts on KISS1R in the hypothalamus to trigger GnRH release — the upstream switch of the entire reproductive axis.

Safety

Well tolerated in trials; half-life is minutes, so exposure is brief. Chronic use is unstudied and continuous stimulation of this axis can downregulate it.

Storage and handling

Lyophilised peptide is generally stored at 2–8 °C, or below −20 °C for long-term storage. Reconstituted in bacteriostatic water (0.9% benzyl alcohol) a solution is typically treated as usable for about 28 days refrigerated, versus roughly 24 hours for plain sterile water, which has no preservative. Add the water slowly down the vial wall and swirl — never shake, which shears peptide chains and foams the solution.
